Here are all the hygiene ratings of Leicester students’ favourite restaurants

One filthy kebab please

Whether you’re ordering a drunk snack from AJ’s, hungover brunch from Salvador Deli or a curry with the lads from Queens Tandoori. Do you really know how clean your food is?

The Food Standards Agency will give each outlet a rating between 0 and 5 – 0 being awful and 5 being amazing.

When buying a meal, it’s not unreasonable to expect the place to have a very good rating. After trawling through the Food Standards Agency website to view the ratings of Leicester outlets numerous places had some shocking ratings, which may make you want to think twice about ordering.

Here’s some food for thought.

Salvador Deli

Rating: 2

The classic weekend place for that much needed brunch. Salvador Deli has become a firm favourite with students but it’s low rating may make you want to switch up that normal hungover routine. Marked low on facility cleanliness who really knows what that kitchen looks like.

AJ’s

Rating: 1

Nixon Court residents and Dry Dock regulars know that AJ’s is the place to grab that late night snack. With the staff full of banter and a bargain of a menu, nobody could really fault the little shed. But it’s low food safety mark might make you regret eating there more than that stranger you brought home after Shabang.

Student Union

Rating: 3

Ah yes, the many outlets in our beloved Student Union. Surprisingly though, the Union Diner and Union Market were both scored a 3 which means ‘Generally Satisfactory.’ Maybe the huge number of students who spend their lunches eating bagels, nachos and burgers will now think differently.

Queen’s Tandoori

Rating: 2

The classic takeaway curry. Whether you like a Tikka Masala, a Korma or are an absolute fucking lunatic and eat the lava that is a Vindaloo, everyone can agree on curry for dinner. Not  to try and ruin your normal Saturday evening delight, Queen’s Tandoori was marked low on food handling.

TJ’s (London Road)

Rating: 1

Let’s be honest, are we even surprised? If the pixelated pictures of chicken and the slow spin of the greasy kebab rotisserie didn’t put you off, then hopefully it’s low rating will. Both food handling and food safety were marked low but by all means continue eating there if you feel like the ultimate risk taker.

Maryland Chicken (Evington)

Rating 1:

The cheapest of the cheap. Forget McDonalds and KFC, it is remarkable how much food you can buy for a fiver in a Maryland Chicken. The city of Leicester has a number of the outlets but the one in Evington is by far the worst. Scoring low in cleanliness, safety and handling, this place is really the icing on the cake. Tuck in.

Loaded Dog

Rating: 5

There is still a god. If all these ratings have seriously put you off eating out in Leicester, then you can always rely on the good ole’ dog for a burger and a pint.
