The things that were more likely to happen than Leicester winning the league, according to bookies

There were better odds for Kim K as the next US president

Leicester City have done it! They’ve won their first ever league title, as their 1-1 draw with Manchester United meant title rivals Tottenham had to win ALL of their remaining games. However, Tottenham drew 2-2 with Chelsea last night. Before a ball was kicked back in August last year, Leicester City were 5000/1 to win the league. If you know nothing about betting, that’s huge. Here are some examples of things ‘more likely’ to happen according to the bookies.

The Pope to sign for Rangers: 4000/1

The 79-year-old Pope, according to Paddy Power, is more likely to sign for the Scottish side Rangers than Leicester to win the league. Although Leicester narrowly avoided the drop last season, were surely more likely to win the league than this happening? But, Rangers proved to need to place a bit for Pope Francis, as their season was successful, gaining promotion and a cup final place after beating rivals Glasgow.

Piers Morgan to be the next manager of Arsenal FC: 2500/1

Opinionated Piers Morgan has often expressed his wishes for Arsne Wenger to be sacked at Arsenal. The bookies believe that despite no managerial experience, Piers Morgan, is twice more likely to replaced Wenger than Leicester winning the league.

Kim Kardashian to be the next President of the United States: 2000/1

I wonder how many people brainwashed by the Kardashian ‘empire’ would actually vote for this to happen. But surely this would never happen? But, that is what Leicester have proved, despite the odds, anything is possible.

In 1964, a human to walk on the moon by the end of the decade: 1000/1

Dave from Preston bet £10 on these odds back in 1964 after being inspired by J F Kennedy. Having won £10,000 (which is worth over £155,000 today), he bought himself a sports car, but was sadly killed in a crash.

Elvis to be proven to not be dead: 2000/1

This is a crazy one. It has been over 40 years since the ‘King’ died, but bookies had this more than twice as likely as the foxes being able to win the league.

Jose Mourinho to quit Chelsea and go on I’m a Celebrity: 1000/1

Leicester’s success this season was not the only shock of the season. Chelsea were the favourites to win the Premier League at the start of the season, but come November, they were 16th. At the start of the season the odds of Mourinho leaving Chelsea to go to the jungle was 5 times more likely than Leicester winning the league. ITV, there’s a suggestion for this year’s jungle, and currently he wouldn’t have to quit a job.

San Marino to qualify for the World Cup 2018 as Group C winners: 1000/1

San Marino, Europe’s worst national football side according the FIFA rankings, are five times more likely to not only qualify, but win their group to get to the World Cup in 2018 than Leicester were to win the league. This is so surprising. San Marino are in a group with current World Cup champions (Germany), Czech Republic, Norway, Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan. Although Leicester had to play 38 games in the Premier League compared to San Marino’s 10, they have only ever won game in their history; 1-0 friendly win in 2004.

Simon Cowell to be Prime Minister: 500/1

Karen from Outnumbered once joked about children should vote in elections so she could see Simon Cowell being Prime Minster. Well the odds of this happening is 10 times more likely than what the bookies thought at the start of the season. But if this did happen, what party would Cowell represent?

Denny Welbeck to be the next James Bond: 500/1

If Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck gets fed up of always finishing 4th, he is in the running to play the next James Bond. However, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba top the bookies favourites to play the next 007.

The UK to win the Eurovision song contest: 50/1

We all know that this won’t happen. Avid fans of the contest know that the UK hasn’t won since 1997, and barley been a contest since. The UK were the last country to receive the infamous ‘nil points’ in the final back in 2003.

This season has been incredible. It has been one of football’s greatest ever achievements and shocks, and time will tell if Leicester can go on to better local rivals Nottingham Forest’s success in back to back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.
