LIBRARY FIGHT: The YikYak rumour which rocked campus to its very core

‘There is actually blood’

Yesterday Leicester’s YikYak feed was inundated with circulating rumours of a fist fight in the David Wilson library.

We are here to break the true story – It was all a lie.

We spoke to the original posters of the fight post to discover the truth.

Ben Owen, final year Geography student and Reiss Merritt, final year BSC Economics student, decided to distract their housemates in the library and liven up Leicester’s YikYak game in the process.

Ben said: “To tell you the honest truth, me and my friend were bored at home and wanted to cheer up our friends in the library, so we created a rumour that there was a fight in the library and now the whole of YikYak has gone mental.”

Here is the original post that started it all:

Ben explained: “We wanted to see what would happen if a wrong rumour was posted. We just made up the floor the silent zone fight and then the reported bloody nose.”

Leicester students quickly reacted to the post with disbelief and dozens of jokes about the fight. Some even added more ‘evidence’ and sightings of the fight.

Ben said: “We were amazed how quickly people believed a story with no evidence. It was so funny when other people claimed to see it and then added to the story.”

Some even provided a motive for the fight.

Many students took to Twitter and Facebook to comment on the alleged fight. News even reached as far as Estonia:

Shortly after the library fight post, YikYak rumours began to pick up that fights were breaking out all over Leicester student areas, Attenborough Tower, Queens Road and the 80A bus were all mentioned as sources of confrontation.

The legitimacy of these claims is yet to be certified but material for procrastination is at a definite peak.

Well, we won’t let you down.
