Leeds is full of hidden, and some less-hidden, gems that offer good vegan food at a reasonable price, and this list can begin a beautiful journey of vegan food discovery for you and our wonderful city of Leeds.

Eccos Pizzeria

Quality and quantity are in abundance at Ecco’s Pizzeria, who’s reputation of having the best pizza in Leeds is validated not only by its amazing sauce and crust, but also by the wide variation of choice for veggies: pizzas such as the Vegetali, Funghi, Rucoletta and Bianca are easily made vegan, just ask for vegan mozzarella to replace the diary option. There are also two pizzas, the Lombardini and Marinara that already come cheese free. Not only is Eccos delicious, but it is also more vegan friendly and better value for money than Dominos. Humpit

This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Humpit, an entirely vegan, reasonably priced hummus and pita bar in the city centre which is hailed by trip adviser users as having the ‘best falafel in Leeds”. There is a variety of toppings on offer, from tahini to salsa to vegetables. The Humpit Classic comes under a fiver, which is incredibly decent value for a bowl of hummus, whole chickpeas, parsley, olive oil, paprika and pitta bread.

Primo’s Gourmet Hot Dogs

Primo’s Gourmet Hot Dogs can be found in the Corn Exchange, and its tofu dog provides a slightly greasier, hangover friendly, alternative veggie option to its neighbour, Humpit. Either get a simple tofu dog in a bun for less than £4, or upgrade to the Garden State dog for £4.45 which offers 3 of a wide variety of toppings to be added to your ‘dog’. If you’re in the town centre and looking for a quick dose of grease, its definitely worth checking out.

Rola Wala

Rola Wala, an Indian street food outlet in based in Trinity Kitchen, boasts a variety of reasonably priced, filling and vibrant veggie options. Whether you’re going for a rice bowl, vegan naan roll or cauliflower rice bowl, you can guarantee to get your money’s worth by piling up on the veggie curries, and veggie toppings, salads and sauces. The quick service, central location, reliable quality and the variety of choice, make Rola Wala a veggie staple.

Mrs Atha’s

Mrs Atha’s coffee is raved about, even being hailed as the best coffee in Leeds by some, and is a wonderful spot to find good quality vegan cake. This small independent coffee shop is a wonderfully chilled spot to stop by if you’re near the town centre and looking for some down time.

Global Tribe Cafe

According its website, the Global Tribe Cafe aims to create a ‘sanctuary of positivity and community spirit’, and it is arguable that its exclusively vegetarian and vegan menu offers a wealth of positivity and sanctuary for any veggie seeking decent comfort food. The choices range from a full English, complete with tofu scramble and aubergine ‘bacon’, to curries and stews, to TLT’s (Tofu, lettuce and tomato, obviously) to vegan cakes and raw vegan cheesecake. From breakfast to desert, your needs are catered for.

Hansa’s

Hansa’s is an essential stop for any veggie who appreciates Indian food. This vegetarian restaurant was has been supplying Leeds with excellent veggie Indian food for over 30 years, and the menu boasts a more than satisfying range of clearly marked vegan options. Vegans can enjoy quality starters, fresh vegetable curries, daals and deserts all at a reasonable price.

Grove cafe

It would appear that your veggie with is Grove Cafe’s demand. It would be a challenge for even the most fussy of vegans to reject the massive range of food offered by this takeaway restaurant. The list of curries is substantial, vegan korma, rogan josh and masala are just a few on offer. There are 10 vegan pizzas on offer and the variation in toppings is overwhelming, ranging from roasted tofu to vegetables to meat-free chicken pieces. The sides are an added treat, vegan onion rings, potato wedges and garlic bread are all available. With most mains coming it around a fiver, and delivering all over Leeds, his place is a hungover vegan student’s dream.
