Leeds Uni students complete pole-dancing marathon

They performed for twenty-four hours

Skilled students from the University of Leeds Union’s Vertical Fitness club performed for an amazing 24 hours for their ‘Pole-a-thon’, and finally finished on Saturday morning.

The club were raising money for Basis Yorkshire, a charity that empowers women and girls to be safe and make positive choices. They also provide information and support to female and transgender women in the sex industry who live or work in the city, and lends support to sex workers and those who are at risk of sexual exploitation.

Aiming to challenge the stigma and stereotype encircling pole dancing, to raise money for a Leeds-based charity, and to emphasise the skill and strength required, the students challenged themselves to be dancing at all times. As the past week was Sex Worker and Sexual Abuse and Violence Awareness week, it’s fitting that the club have currently raised over £600 for Basis Yorkshire, and hope to reach £700.
