Residents evacuated after fire at Leodis halls

Smoke from the burning flat blocked out windows

Residents of D Block in the Leodis halls were evacuated from their building tonight after a large-scale kitchen fire broke out in a flat.

While they took shelter in the common room or in other blocks, two fire engines arrived, watched by subwardens.

The site manager said:

“Thank God you are all alive. I’m looking at you now and that’s what I’m happy about.”

Residents gathered in the common room were shaken. One D block resident, an anonymous geographer, said:

“It’s just so inconvenient, isn’t it?”

After twenty minutes, Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” was played over the speakers.

D Block were allowed back in, floor by floor, at half past nine.

Word of the drama spread, inevitably, on YikYak.
