Tequila watered down?

Controversial club night taken over by new management promising “Fun but responsible events” after council pressure. But have they changed?

The most controversial club night in Leeds is back, but will Qualite (an anagram of Tequila) be the same?

Tequila’s relaunch at the Faversham will now be run by Voodoo events, a company famous for putting on nights at Oceana (now known as Pryzm).

The secret is out, but is this the same Tequila or a watered down copy?

Matt Winterbottom, Managing Director of Voodoo events said: “There has been significant student demand for a new weekly Thursday club night.”

“In particular, the old crowd from Tequila, who are decent and well-behaved students and are looking for a new night where they can all party together.”

He added:  “Our company ethos is to run fun but responsible events and we will be working closely with The Faversham to put on a great student night.”

But not everyone is looking forward to Tequila’s relaunch.

Councillor Neil Walshaw said: “I am disappointed that the Faversham has chosen to host a night which has previously used such offensive marketing material.”

“I, along with my Headingley Ward Colleague Cllr Janette Walker, will be watching ‘Qualite’ & The Faversham VERY closely. We will not tolerate the use of rape culture or other misogynistic materials in any way.”

Councillors have asked students to keep an eye on the club night for any repeat of sexist blurs.

However, students have had mixed reactions to the launch of Qualite.

One student told The Tab: “The anagram and similar use of advertising prove they haven’t changed. They need to go.”

But another said: “The  last thing we need is another Oceana, Tequila was good because it was something different.”
