KCL backtracks on backtrack and vows to go ahead with rebrand

We’ll be known as King’s London

In an outrageous move, it has been revealed today that King’s College London have decided to go ahead with the wildly unpopular rebrand proposal after all.

Despite outrage from students and staff, a 10,000 signature strong petition and extensive dialogue between Principal Ed Byrne and students on the matter, today university bosses admitted that, shockingly, King’s London is still on the cards.

Speaking to The Tab, uni spokesperson Railf Spool said: “The initial reaction was overwhelming, and we appreciate that students will still feel strongly about this issue. However, the reality is that the rebranding is the right decision for King’s London and its students, regardless of whether students and staff understand the admittedly complex reasoning behind this.

“Therefore, the rebranding will be going ahead with immediate effect.”

Over the summer break, all King’s College London branding will be replaced with the previously circulated King’s London logo, and from next year, students will officially receive degrees from King’s London. This is in contrast to Ed Byrne’s insistence that this would not be the case earlier this year.

Emily Braddock, the second year theologian who started the petition, has expressed her disappointment with the university.

In an exclusive interview with The Tab, she said: “I am horrified by the news that the college is going to continue with the rebrand. I cannot believe that after all this time and effort, they’ve decided to ignore us. It is an outrage and shows the complete lack of respect that the college has for us. Their behaviour and attitude is appalling.

“I am quite frankly embarrassed by the prospect of my university being referred to as King’s London.”

Before you go complaining to the uni, check your calendars. Happy April Fools Day.
