BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend is coming to Hull

Stormzy, Kings of Leon and Little Mix are the first three acts to be announced

This year’s Radio 1 Big Weekend 2017 will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May at Burton Constable Hall in Hull.

Radio 1 announced that they have more than 50,000 tickets available for the event and that Hull residents will get slight priority when they become available in late March or early April.

They announced: “We always give a degree of preference to those in the local area”, meaning us students may be in with a shot for grabbing one of the golden tickets.

Tickets will be free but there will be the usual £8.50 booking fee for admin, handling and postage.

With the City of Culture 2017 celebrations and events, it’s unsurprising that Radio 1, which chooses a different city each year, has chosen our humble city as their next location for Big Weekend.

This is obviously great news for students, but could also bring new opportunities for local bands or even student bands due to the BBC Introducing stage which has played a part in their Big Weekend for years.

More information and more acts will be announced in due course.
