Finally! The Scottish flag emoji will be launched soon

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for

This summer our wildest dreams will come true: the release of the saltire emoji.

The emoji’s launch has been approved by Unicode, the authority for text and characters, along with the English and Welsh flags.

This means Google, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook will be able to launch the new emojis and it will be up to different smartphone companies when they wish to release them.

This news follows the launch of new Glasgow-based emoji app Glasmoji – as if being Scottish wasn’t already cool enough.

There have been calls for a Saltire emoji to grace our smartphones’ screens for quite some time. The only other British emoji currently present is the Union Jack.

Iona, a second-year at Glasgow Uni, said: “I can’t believe it, my whole life has been leading up to this day.”
