Silk to close down and be replaced by student accommodation

It’s part of a massive transformation of King’s Stables Road

One of Edinburgh’s most popular student night clubs is to close down and be replaced by student accommodation as part of a major redevelopment on King’s Stables Road just off the Grassmarket.

Silk, which has previously hosted the successful Zian Thursdays, will remain open until November 2019 and won’t be affected by work until the later stages of the redevelopment programme.

Silk told The Tab: “The entire street is being redeveloped into student accommodation but Silk isn’t closing until the later stages of the development, so will still be open as Edinburgh’s number one student venue until November 2019.”

In anticipation of the building work, Zian have moved to Opal, opening with a successful night there last Thursday.

The developer, Peveril Securities, are also proposing to build a hotel, residential property, and buildings for commercial use alongside the student accomodation.
