Edinburgh also retained its place as 20th overall. We were placed 2nd in film production and photography, 2nd in vetinerary science, 4th in marine sciences, 4th in social policy, 6th in geography, 6th in journalism, 6th in anthropology, 8th in music, 7th in sociology, 7th in compsci, 9th in town planning, 8th in civil engineering and 10th in maths, amongst others.

The university also reported 9.1/10 in spending on students across all subjects.

The Guardian’s league tables rank universities according to: spending per student; the student/staff ratio; graduate career prospects; what grades applicants need to get a place; a value-added score that compares students’ entry qualifications with their final degree results; and how satisfied final-year students are with their courses, based on results from the annual National Student Survey (NSS).
