Police investigate reports of missing girl by Elvet Bridge

They deployed Durham’s only dog unit

Police are investigating unconfirmed rumours of a missing girl by the river.

A dog unit was deployed to the riverside towpath in the early hours of this morning.

Durham’s only dog unit arrived at the scene shortly after they were alerted

Coppers trawled through CCTV at Klute, where the girl reportedly passed. Fresher reps from Cuths informed the police after they were alerted by a local.

Police at the scene questioned the reliability of the source, and were unsure whether the reported person was in fact a student.

More to follow.
