Four Cardiff students have an opportunity to DJ at a top nightclub

Both pairs are currently just short of winning their competition polls

Four students from Cardiff have the chance to perform back-to-back sets in a nationwide renowned club in February, if they win a competition.

Marcus Barfield, Sami Beggache, Josh Hill and Chay Walbeoff are all competing to perform in Sankeys, Manchester on 25th of February.

Sankeys is a mecca for dance music in the UK, hosting some of the biggest names in underground dance music scene.

Marcus studies Finance at Cardiff Met

Split into two pairs, the guys all have a shot at winning, as Josh and Chay are in ‘Poll A’ and Marcus and Sami are in ‘Poll B’. The pairs hope to perform at the Solid Grooves event, a brand who have been successful at hosting some world-famous DJs in Ibiza.

The Tab spoke to Josh, 21, who studies Sports Science at USW, and Chay, also 21, who studies Spanish at Swansea Uni. They started DJ’ing as a pair back in summer 2016.

They said: “Since September we’ve played some incredible events from The Gallery at Ministry of Sound, London with Henry Saiz and Olivier Giacomotto, Memorex with Paco Osuna, CYNT handing over to Jonas Rathsman, Purrmotions handing over to Jasper James and Shangri-La with a number of big names such as Eats Everything!”

They added: “Playing at Sankeys would be an incredible opportunity and something I feel could give us an extra boost in the right direction. Also, playing there with the likes of Pawsa, Dennis Cruz and Michael Bibi etc., all huge names in the music industry would be an amazing experience, something we could take onboard and into the future.”

Sami studies Computer Science at Cardiff Met

Marcus, 21, who studies Finance at Cardiff Met already plays for Mi Casa and CYNT. He’s also played for Knee Deep In Sound. Marcus told The Tab: “People should vote for Sami and I as it would give us an amazing opportunity and would help us with what we want to do for a career.”
