‘Great Birmingham meme war’ yet to reach a peaceful conclusion

This is only the beginning

It started as a battle between the University of Birmingham’s two dedicated Facebook meme pages, University of Birmemeham and Edgy Memes for University of Birmingham Teens, with each one claiming to be the best. University of Birmemeham started the conflict on February 12th, leading to a full-blown battle between the two groups with derogatory content flying back and forth like miniature Old Joe shaped bullets. However, things just turned a lot more uglier.

An unsurprising turn saw Warwick Memes take both sides by surprise when they entered the fray. Their roasting of UOB’s most valued member, Old Joe, in comparison to Warwick’s ‘Koan’ understandably left both Birmingham groups speechless with outrage. With over 24 hours of silence between the shock entrance of Warwick Memes and Birmingham’s response, the battle was well and truly underway once more.

The counter-attack ranged from the rather underwhelming Koan to the location of the University of Warwick (I mean come on, why’s it called the University of Warwick when it’s in Coventry?) and quickly escalated even further into a battle of intellect.

University Challenge rankings and the number of Nobel Laureates held by each University were just some of the topics which came under fire.

While Warwick’s intervention has apparently ended the civil war between the two Birmingham groups with them uniting to take down Warwick, it has far from lessened the strife. After all, their appearance has made it a matter of Brum pride.

With there being no sign of a ceasefire between the two Universities, it remains to be seen how far this battle will escalate, and furthermore, if the two Birmingham groups will remain friends after Warwick’s (inevitable) defeat.
