If you thought the Vale was fun, Victoria Halls are building new flats on none other than the legendary Goose’s car park.

The proposed block won’t be ready until 2017, but will gobble all 58 car parking spaces replace them with 63 bedrooms.

The halls will be divided into flats of five or six rooms, as well as three luxury studio apartments.

Per month, standard rooms in Vic Halls cost £555, with luxury studios costing up to £857 –– but prices for this building have not yet been revealed.

There are already two blocks on either side of Grange Road, and a third on the Selly Oak bypass.

The new independent halls follow the uni’s recent surge in development, building 900 new rooms in the Vale to alleviate the chronic shortage of accommodation.

During the 2013/2014 academic year, Birmingham’s five universities admitted 73,750 students –– of which only 32 per cent could be accommodated in university and private sector halls.

But third year Business student Adam is sceptical about the proposal.

He told The Tab: “The lack of student accommodation definitely needs resolving, but Victoria Halls dominate Selly Oak as it is.

“Do we really need more than the 900 bedrooms the University is already building?”

Local Goose veteran Bob added: “I worry the Goose will get closed down due to noise complaints.”

Planners are hoping the halls will be completed in time for the 2017/2018 academic year.
