Belfast has been ranked as the second best capital city in Europe.

Following a survey conducted by the European Commission every two years, Belfast has placed as the second best city in Europe in the eyes of its residents. 98 per cent of respondents to the question “I am satisfied to live in Belfast” said they totally agree. The Northern Ireland capital was beaten by only one British city as happiest city in the UK.

The survey was conducted in 79 European cities and ranked those cities according to their citizen’s satisfaction with everything available to them, from sports facilities to the efficiency of the public transport in their area.

A huge 95 per cent of people in Belfast said they were happy with their lives. 55 per cent of Belfast residents consider themselves very satisfied with the city, with 40 per cent saying they are satisfied.

Belfast was pipped to the post as happiest UK city, though, by Newcastle, which ranked as 10th happiest city in Europe, with Aalborg topping the table. But the Northern Irish capital was ranked happiest place in the UK for well being in a survey conducted by the Office for National Statistics in January.
