BPOC: Phil the hamster

He lives in the Hamsterdam

While her friends were saving up for a trip to Amsterdam, Holly spent the money she had put away on a hamster. Her little chicken, no it’s a hamster, now brightens up her days.

Meet the little furball

Described as an impulse buy to avoid studying, Phil joined our household a week ago, and has been the centre of attention since. A constant flow of people who act like they’ve never seen an animal before come to glance at the hamster while he spins.

While Holly’s friends were all bunching the pennies together to book a trip to Amsterdam, Holly, a third year Chemical Engineering student spent her deposit on adorable little Phil.

Phil’s total damage to Holly’s bank account comes to £70, when the cage, ball, toys inside cage and two-way taxi trip to the pet store are all included in the bill.

Phil’s humble abode – or Hamsterdam, since Holly’s no longer going to the real thing

Holly ran it by her mum and then her housemates to see if it’d be okay to buy a hamster and after getting the go ahead from both she booked the taxi to the pet store. The rest of her housemates were as eager to go see the hamster being bought as Holly herself was.

When they returned after 2 hours with the latest addition to our house, after figuring out how to put together the hamster cage like manufacturing a rocket ship, Phil was finally at home.

Tastier than what I’ve seen some students eat

When asked if she’d rather the hamster or the trip to Amsterdam, Holly said: “The hamster, without a doubt”.
