These are the top 100 UK employers for LGBT people
Law and finance jobs came out on top in the 2017 rankings
Lloyds Banking Group are the most inclusive employer in the UK, according to a 2017 Workplace Equality Index.
The list, released by leading LGBT charity Stonewall, was also topped by other banks such as J.P. Morgan, as well as law firms like Pinsent Masons and Clifford Chance. The legal sector made up half of the top 10.
Also featured in the top 10 were British security service MI5, the National Assembly for Wales and the Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service.
The top five were indicative of a surge in inclusiveness in the financial sector, with companies like KPMG, RBS and PwC all taking places in the top 20.
Elsewhere in the top 100, universities like Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham featured, as well as the House of Commons, the Army and the Royal Navy.
Stonewall, who published their report this morning, noted that one in eight LGB respondents would not feel comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation to any managers or senior colleagues.
Furthermore, one in five trans employees wouldn’t feel comfortable disclosing their gender identity to any colleagues.
The list was compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a benchmarking tool used by employers to assess their achievements and progress on LGBT equality in the workplace.
Interestingly, no media companies are featured in the top 100 – and “technology, retail and leisure and arts are all underrepresented.”
António Horta Osório, Group Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group, said: “We are honoured to be recognised by Stonewall as the leading employer for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
“Lloyds Banking Group is committed to supporting diversity in its workforce so that we can harness all of the qualities and talents of our colleagues to achieve our aim of helping Britain prosper.”
