The ceiling of Factory collapsed last night

Nobody is thought to have been injured

At 1.28am this morning, the first floor of Factory nightclub in Manchester collapsed onto a dance floor full of people.

It is reported that no one inside the club was hurt and everyone was evacuated safely.

Here is a video that was taken by someone at the club:

It was meant to be a typical Saturday night at the popular Manchester club, but the night ended earlier than expected due to the ceiling of the first floor collapsing.

A spokesman for Factory told the MEN: “A section of plasterboard came loose from the first floor. The same section that came loose on this exact weekend two years ago.

“At this stage we are uncertain how or why – no one was hurt and the club was evacuated purely as a precaution – there is no structural issue so we now need to investigate with contractors how this re-occurred.

“This issue relates to the first floor only. Ground and second floors will open as normal on Monday while we investigate the first floor issue”

Tom Foster, third year Television and Radio student at Salford Uni told The Tab Manchester, “It was definitely the strangest experience I’ve had on a night out! The room was absolutely packed and I was looking at the ceiling and it just fell out, the glass LED light strips all smashed into everyone and then they seemed to be holding up half a rooms worth of ceiling board.”

Liam Shaw, second year Multimedia and Journalism student at Salford Uni, commented, “I felt this rubble fall on my head, not heavy at all, and it went in my eyes, then I saw that people were holding the roof up with their hands and got out of the room as soon as possible.

“I wasn’t hurt and I don’t think anyone else was either but security rushed into the 1st floor to try and fix the problem. It was crazy! No one acted scared as such, but it was a bit unnerving definitely!”

Bethan Holmes, third year Broadcast Journalism student at Salford uni told The Tab Manchester, “I was on the edge of the dance floor and then bits of plaster landed on me, and it went in my left eye, I didn’t know what had happened. Then I turned round to see that most of the roof had collapsed in the middle of the room and everyone was holding it up. The music stopped and I heard people shouting and glass breaking.

“This was one of the reasons I had avoided Factory for so long as I’d heard about similar incidents, and those kind of things really scare me! So to see it happening right in front of me was literally my worst nightmare!

“One of my friends grabbed me and we headed downstairs as bouncers were running up the stairs to help the situation. I couldn’t see out of my eye for quite some time, but eventually with the help of friends we managed to sort it out and today it seems okay, just a bit sore.”

Although the cause is unknown, this is not the first time the ceiling has fallen down in Factory. Two years ago on the top floor ceiling collapsed injuring seven people.
