Pornhub, Redtube and Spankwire could be made illegal by the Tories

You’re favourite free porn sites could be shut by the government if age restrictions aren’t put in place.

Free sites like Pornhub, Redtube and Spankwire could soon be banned, or made illegal, if they fail to install age verification software.

In a statement, David Cameron said: “I want to see age restrictions put into place or these websites will face being shut down.”

Legislation could be brought in to make it an offence to publish porn without age controls.

The Government complains the UK’s popular porn sites don’t have “robust age verification”, suggesting to deny underage access through means such as payment providers.

This restriction on the industry comes months after The British Board of Film Censors outlawed a list of potentially “life-endangering” sexual acts, such as fisting, spanking and female ejaculation.

British porn producers now can’t make adult material to be sold in shops. Until now, the banned porn was easily available on free websites like Porn Hub and Red Tube.

The Government want to make sure “the rules that apply offline apply online”, as DVD sales have more effective age controls.

In autumn, the Government will consult the most effective ways of regulating the sites to deny access to children, before deciding which will be regulated or banned.

Joanna Shields, the minister for internet safety and security said: “Whilst great progress has been made, we remain acutely aware of the risks and dangers that young people face online.

“This is why we are committed to taking action to protect children from harmful content. Companies delivering adult content in the UK must take steps to make sure these sites are behind age verification controls.”
