The girl’s guide to male grooming

Sit back, relax, and take note: you’re in good (and soft) hands

| UPDATED

Let’s be real, girls have made grooming into an art form. From hair to skin, nails to toes, we treat our body like a sculpture that needs to be maintained, and we are good at it. So it seems fair enough that we can judge the way a guy takes care of himself.

HAIR

Your hair is the holy grail of grooming. Everyone has an obsession with their hair. We’re not saying we want you to spend more time on it than we do, but don’t look like you just got out of bed. #iwokeuplikethis doesn’t work for anyone.

To help you achieve that perfect, effortless look, we’ve got a year’s worth of Lynx grooming products to give away for free. All you need to do is fill in the form below.

But please don’t overdo the gel, there’s a reason Johnny Bravo isn’t popular anymore.

Less is more, and sometimes, none is more. However, if you are in need of a styling product throw away the gel and try a hair wax instead.

The reason? We can still run our fingers through your luscious locks without getting stuck in them. For example…

EYEBROWS

Avoid those mo-oh no-brows. There’s these magical little hair pulling tools, called tweezers. Use them.

However, don’t get ahead of yourself and get into shaping the rest of your eyebrows. Just no. We’re only talking about those pesky hairs in the middle. Leave the shaped eyebrows to the ladies.

FACIAL HAIR

If you’re platinum blonde skip to the next point, beards don’t apply to you.

Know your limits

There is one rule for beards: if cant grow a proper beard don’t grow anything. Facial “fluff” is not a beard. Get rid of it.

If you are a lucky lad and Movember is your favourite holiday, keep up the good work, but just make sure you keep it trimmed and under control.

IT’S ALL IN THE SCENT

If we already think you’re sexy, the right scent will make you 97% sexier (as proven by recent Tab studies).

Pick the right fragrance and we will want to get all close and personal just to get a whiff of it.

NAILS

Another magical tool? Nail clippers. You don’t have to go for a (man)icure, but seriously, leave the long nails to the girls, there’s nothing worse than a guy with longer nails than us.

And this applies for toe nails too.

BODY HAIR

Keep the body hair to a minimum. Yes, we wan’t our men to be manly, but you’re not a gorilla. Keep it neat.

If you’re not man enough to go and get it waxed. We’ll settle for hair removal cream. This applies downstairs as well.

SKINCARE

If all that liquid on your face is not sweat from working out at the gym, it’s a no. Take care of your skin please. It’s as simple as this…

First you scrub…

Then you cleanse…

And then you moisturise…

PERSONAL HYGIENE

To tie it all together, just stay clean. We’re not saying become go overboard, but you do own a shower and a toothbrush. Make sure you use them when you need them.

THE RESULT – Mat

As a student, the lovely Mat modelled underwear for Hollister, DSquared, Reiss and Clavin Klein. So he’s a man who knows what he’s talking about. We got him alone for a minute to see if he agreed with our guide.

Do you find being well-groomed helps your love life? Definitely, although I actually don’t get any facial hair but luckily my girlfriend doesn’t mind.

Do you think more guys should pay attention to how they look? I remember once in year 9 I had sleepy dust in my eyes and a girl I fancied told me to take more care in my appearance, that advice has stuck with me ever since.

THE RESULT – Alex

We sent Bristol graduate Alex off to Lynx for a dose of male grooming, just the way we like it.

After going under the buzzer and the right amount of gel, he looked like a new man.
